Earthquakes have been known to wreak havoc on many a man-made structure throughout time, forcing construction techniques in seismically active areas to use a little bit of creative brain power. In this new residence, aptly named Vistas del Angel for its incredibly scenic location outside of Guatemala City, from Juan Lacape of LAKP, the battle against the forces of shifting tectonic plates has been decided thanks to a unique cantilever design. Constructed in three phases, each with a specific foundation capable of withstanding the weight, the house seems to rise up from the land below in an utterly breathtaking symbiotic relationship. The interior can only be described as thoroughly modern, accentuated by the extensive use of glazed windows and open air terraces that most certainly take advantage of a view fit only for angels.
