The Dum Dum Girls have released their newest album, “Only in Dreams.” Their first album, “I Will Be,” holds a score of 79 on Metacritic, so the ladies certainly have quite a task to follow up that success. The band can best be described as indie, goth, pop. If you’ve never heard of the band, check out the video for their single “Bedroom Eyes.” When you first lead singer Dee Dee walk out to her guitar, you might be expecting to hear moody, kind of broody tones, but really it’s quite the opposite. It sounds a bit like combining The Beach Boys with a little goth.
The video itself is quite interesting. You see the four band members playing in what looks to be a large white room. Then, at about the one minute mark, things get a little psychedelic. The kaleidoscope interludes pop up throughout the video. According to their website, with “Only in Dreams,” the band is able to keep their “blend of the girl-gang eyeliner punk of the Shangri-Las, the trashy propulsion of the Cramps, and the moody atmospherics of Mazzy Star.” The album also is the first time all four band members will both play and sing. Leave any pre-conceived notions at the door about goth pop and check out the Dum Dum Girls.
“Only in Dreams” and “I Will Be” are both available on iTunes for $7.99 each. You can visit the band’s official site for news and tour dates.
