Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have always been a musical anomaly. Their catchy fuzz indie rock is usually paired with lyrics that seldom flow together, giving the listener a memorable, though not arresting listening experience. With their latest album, Hysterical, the New York based band has begun to move to more conventional indie rock. After two albums of Flaming Lips style craziness, Hysterical proves to be a welcome change for a band whose most unexpected move would be to come back down to earth a bit. That’s not to say that the album doesn’t have its weirder moments. “Siesta” is a slow burning power ballad, straight out of a 2000’s era Muse album and “Yesterday Never” is by far the bands most optimistic song to date. Standout tracks within the album are Misspent Youth, Yesterday Never, and Hysterical.
Hysterical will be released on September 20th, but until then, you can head over to Vpro.nl to stream the entire album.
