The Black Whales latest single “Walking in the Dark” is a laid back mid temp summer song. Rambling about what he does and doesn’t believe in, Whale’s lead singer Alex Robert’s voice fits nicely within the songs layer upon layer of guitars. Based out of Seattle, WA the band combines 60’s era radio rock with the same folky lyrics that have made such bands as the Fleet Foxes and Kurt Vile world famous today. The band does however have some more recent influences, “Walking in the Dark” could easily have been a standout song on a Smashing Pumpkins album. In fact, “Dark” sounds more like a Pumpkins song than the band have produced themselves in years.
The Black Whales latest LP “Shangri-la Indeed” is out now and available on the band’s website.
