DJ Shadow’s latest single “Warning Call” serves as both a departure and a reinvention of the renowned artist’s impressive musical career. “Call” is one of Shadow’s darker songs, moving along a Goth-punk beat, the song also has an impressive feature performance from UK singer Tom Veck. Much of Shadow’s career has been spent creating meditative electronica, making “Call” a welcome departure for the acclaimed producer. While Shadow has never reclaimed the peak he hit in the 90’s, this single gives us hope that Shadow is returning to his old form by surprising us with something unpredictable and completely outside the lines.
Shadow’s album, The Less You Know the Better, will be released on Sept. 27.
