4 Stroke Jean’s Creative Director, Tobias Levine is involved in the American denim market at what would appear to be a significant time of its culture. There has been a noticeable resurgence of premium denim within the last decade, and the brands that represent this “movement” all possess unique insights to their start-up. The values that they have instilled into their respective brands, does not typically veer from the ethos of the many original denim companies which may have a more storied heritage.
Upon meeting Tobias in his creative work space, it was apparent that he upholds those traditional ideals as well as incorporating modern sensibilities for today’s customers. He is sourcing quality materials from respected mills in North Carolina and Italy and ensuring high standards in craftsmanship. He is well-studied (independently) in this area, and the tour of his work space is a display of his passion for design culture. When combined with an understanding of retail, Tobias possesses strong qualities in producing a marketable line that can satisfy the denim purists and general public alike.
We met with Tobias Levine in his Garment District workspace for him to share how his story started and how it continues to evolve.
