Remy Martin’s Louis XIII cognac has generally been regarded as the finest in the world. Even its trademark Baccarat decanters are seen as a collectors pieces and, sans alcohol, are often sold for much more than most other cognacs the public will ever consume. This year’s “Master of Spirits” event in Singapore will feature a one-off carafe of Louis XIII from the 1930s; this particular piece was involved in a royal banquet in 1938 at the Chateau de Versailles in the presence of King George VI and Queen Elisabeth. The decanter is expected to fetch upwards of €50,000, which is not out of line, especially considering the circumstances and ever-rising demand for rare liquor.
