It’s the video for Tyler The Creator’s track “Yonkers”. Tyler the Creator is part of a rap group called Odd Future.
It’s been a while since a rap act has really caught my attention. They’ve been called horrorcore revival, a gimmick, flash-in-the-pan, and things worse, or better depending on the context. Can they reach super popularity in the mainstream? It’s doubtful, but if it were during the mid 90′s, kids would have Odd Future casette tapes and CD’s playing in their walkmans and discmans, putting it in rotation along with their Wu-Tang collection. I know I would’ve.
But the group has reached a new pinnacle, performing and causing a big ruckus on Late night with Jimmy Fallon. They have the presence, combining a gritty sound into rap tracks perfect for moshpits and violent tendencies – and its great. Just don’t expect them to do a collab with T-Pain anytime soon.
