Every now and then we get an e-mail from a new label across the globe that deserves recognition. PAINKILLER, from Bangkok, Thailand is well deserving of this opportunity. Their Spring/Summer 2011 range takes the era of 1950′s Thailand for their inspiration citing the M.R. Kikrit Pramoj short story “Mom.” The novel is about a dog named “Mom” and his master. The label exclaims that, “the collection takes the imagery of men’s clothing during the first years of Internationalization. At that time, Thai men were forced to wear European clothes for work and keep colorful tropical pieces for home.” The era chosen is very unique to the designs, and the patterns chosen are really subtle and works well to define the range. The muted pastel colors are also utilized well to bring about the climate of the location. Overall, its one of the better collections from Thailand we’ve seen in a while.
