I first saw this kid play ball from Glen Falls, NY two years ago when he was a sophomore at BYU. I was definitely impressed with his scoring ability. However, eventhough he averaged about 16 points a game that season, I felt he still needed a lot of work on his overall game…ie. consistency with the outside jumper, handle and creating off the dribble. Fast forward to today, Jimmer Fredette has done nothing but put on amazing perfomances and has become the nation’s leading scorer, averaging 27.4 points per game.
Last night, Fredette was business as usual. He dropped 43 points and helped #9 BYU give #4 San Diego State their first loss of the season. He has topped 40 points for the second straight game and the third time in his last four. Offensively, this kid is doing anything and everything on the court. He’s taking the ball to the rack and finishing with either hands, coming off screens and consistently hitting mid-range jumpers, and drilling half court shots like they were layups. Jimmer Fredette has embraced his starring role in college hoops this season. He is simply a star and making a very strong case for National Player of the Year. Regardless of what happens the rest of the season, I can clearly say I’ve been “Jimmered.” I am officially a fan of Mr. Fredette. Can Jimmer do what Stephen Curry did for Davidson (in 2009) and lead his Cougars to the Elite Eight? Only time will tell…
