If one was starting from scratch an entire, interchangeable wardrobe could be built from Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair’s Autumn 2009 collection. Eschewing frivolousness, the Swedish clothier’s latest offerings are mostly rendered in monochromatic shades of gray with slim, simple tailoring. Perhaps excepting a few drop-crotch pants, no pieces shout “trend”, however many interesting (some might say quirky) details abound. For example, a seemingly utilitarian multi-pocket shirt features a band collar, drops the usual positioning of chest pockets down to the ribs, and plays with conventional ideas of cuffing. Also, a classic piquet shirt is tailored along the front of the shoulder, rather than the top. In all, a collection that stays on trend, but shouldn’t date soon.
