Philip Sparks Spring 2010

Canadian designer, Philip Sparks, usually draws inspiration for his period-inspired outfits from vintage photographs, unique materials and classic techniques. For his upcoming Spring 2010 collection, Sparks was influenced by getaway ads of the 1950s Canadian Pacific Railway and cottage living. To describe the simple life of the past in a fashionable way, Sparks turned to suiting and rainwear. Using materials like coated polyester on outerwear give these nostalgic looking pieces an updated water resistant look. Sparks gives us an alternative to the slim silhouette with his loose fitting shorts and trousers, which define the collection’s casual suiting. Ensembles such as the updated fisherman’s outfit, which features a cotton sweater vest, tuxedo front dress and water resistant cotton waders, establish Spark’s talent to create something that is both wistful and contemporary.
