Love them or hate them, movie trailers have grown into one of the most popular forms of advertising to date. For most of us, the previews are a delicious appetizer to our cinematic senses for the main course to come.
IFC.com has released its own list of the 50 greatest trailers of all time, which judged the candidates by how well it combined the persuasiveness of salesmanship and the art of filmmaking.
The list includes classics such as Citizen Kane, to summer blockbusters like Independence Day and mediocrities like American Cyborg. IFC’s unique compilation goes to show that trailers play to our basest instincts, and for approximately 2 and half minutes any film can seem to be perfect.
