Denim label PRPS might go for an all-American aesthetic, but the clothes feature a worldly backstory. The denim comes from cotton from Zimbabwe that is woven in Japan on American looms from the 1950’s. From that complicated background, founder Donwan Harrell has created a casual, artfully disheveled denim-centric line for Autumn/Winter 2009 with an authentic vintage feel. Combining distressed jeans in various washes with a selection of outerwear and tops, the line achieves a low-maintenence, carefree style with a fanbase that includes hockey star and budding style icon Sean Avery. The collection also plays with contrasting patterns and fabrics, including a wrinkled, denim button-down with red plaid cuffs and collar, and another with a denim breast pocket and sleeves.
