Designer Miuccia Prada introduces a modern collection inspired by the urban dweller. The latest Spring Collection is dominated by a gray scale palette. The modeled looks featured slim tailoring on the various knits, jackets, accessories and suiting. The materials were grainy and lightweight and micro patterns including Art Deco swirls were prevalent throughout. The reoccuring concepts in pieces included double-breasted jackets with thin lapels, mesh cardigans and vests, tank tops, cutoff tailored shorts and raw-edged silk shirts.

Just my 2cents, but how do you call yourself a ‘designer’ when all you do is regurritate old looks over and over… grey jacket, single breast… double breast… sweater vest… trench.. my god.. do all designers just look at old magazines and simply adjust a neckline here.. a button there.
How about a fashion line with some new silhouettes and cuts for men that weren’t available from EVERY fucking store on earth.
that’s a strong point Melo. who are some designers do you feel are progressing men’s fashion?
In terms of cuts; I wouldn’t know. I just came back from a NY shopping trip and I tell you.. from store to store the same clothes over and over.
Look at women’s fashion and the plethora of cuts, shapes, patterns, fabrics.
I don’t mean to beat up on specific designers.. but come on.. PRADA… $500 for a button down? At least lines like DDCLAB are pushing the boundaries with cutting edge materials and not-so-standard shapes.
I still like some of the traditional cuts but it seems like EVERY bloody designer likes to pump out standards with big ticket price tags season after season.
And I have to call out lines like ‘Vince’ who are opening yet another store in Nolita, seem to just go to China and pick their stuff from the manufacturer’s catalog (like a lot of lines now). I’ve found three of their pieces in Club Monaco, Zara and Banana Replublic.
And too many lines are buying cheap stuff from china and selling it for designer prices and the impession that it is somehow superior than lower end lines.
In every men’s shop:
Button down — long sleeve
Button down — short sleeve
Crew neck
V-neck
cardigan
printed T
Ohh.. and I won’t go into this whole ‘let’s do our take on the chuck taylor thing’ filling shoe departments right now’. No imagination.
Go out and find me a black leather men’s bag that doesn’t look like a briefcase or a giant gym bag.
I’m not the top of the food chain when it comes to fashion.. but i am an avid shopper in-the-know.. and men’s fashion is stuck somewhere between the 50 & 80s.
