More Mr. Bond than Mr. Burns, this classic BMW roadster set the pace for the iconic prewar 327 and 328 models. Borrowing the style of the 303, the 315 continued the use of BMWs signature kidney grille (albeit elongated) that we still see in their New Class models today. The 315 was sexier and faster than the 303, and used three Solex carbeurators and upped displacement from 1.2 to 1.5 liters to create a whopping 40 horsepower. As the first roadster from the luxury German brand, the 315 boasted tremendous, sweeping wheel arches and a long, sleek silhouette. With a wonderful aerodynamic body and competition-ready suspension, this BMW proved incredibly successful in motorsport, even taking first on the fabled Nurburgring (by 17 kilometers, no less) in its first race. The 315/1 inevitably set the stage for its more powerful successor, the 319/1, which happily continued BMWs ascendancy through the ranks of auto racing. Only 242 models were ever created, most finding their way into the garages of private owners.
