More and more designers are moving away from traditional lookbooks and fashion shows as the only means of showcasing their collections. The Paris and Berlin-based designers behind Bless have combined their Fall/Winter 2009 line with performance and video, shot in an empty space in Paris that had previously been both a restaurant and an office building. The result is intriguing, avant-garde and ultimately, very fun. Opting out of a runway or platform to pose upon, models here are each given a drum set and two drumsticks. Dressed in pieces from the collection, and sometimes in 3-D glasses, the models alternate between playing their instruments, simply going through the motions, or doing nothing at all. The clothing itself is experimental, oversized mash-ups of various fabrics and patterns, piled together to form new shapes and intentionally lopsided silhouettes, with an utter disregard for gender. When a fairly classic gray two-piece suit shows up, it almost makes sense in context that the male model is wearing red pumps. See the video below, and stay tuned through the end for still shots of the collection and a shout-out to the label’s interns.
