More and more designers are moving away from traditional lookbooks and fashion shows as the only means of showcasing their collections. The Paris and Berlin-based designers behind Bless have combined their Fall/Winter 2009 line with performance and video, shot in an empty space in Paris that had previously been both a restaurant and an office building. The result is intriguing, avant-garde and ultimately, very fun. Opting out of a runway or platform to pose upon, models here are each given a drum set and two drumsticks. Dressed in pieces from the collection, and sometimes in 3-D glasses, the models alternate between playing their instruments, simply going through the motions, or doing nothing at all. The clothing itself is experimental, oversized mash-ups of various fabrics and patterns, piled together to form new shapes and intentionally lopsided silhouettes, with an utter disregard for gender. When a fairly classic gray two-piece suit shows up, it almost makes sense in context that the male model is wearing red pumps.
