Like Ralph Lauren did with Polo Sport and Prada with Miu Miu, Burberry launched Thomas Burberry as a more casual and less expensive alternative to its main line in an effort to attract a younger consumer. Their Spring/Summer 09 line is definitely less stodgy than its predecessors. The collection offers simple 5-pocket jeans, gingham shirts and their take on a classic, striped polo that would please most teenagers. Their intentionally rumpled scarves and shirts are a departure from the clean, crisp Burberry we’ve all come to know, but the Harrington jacket brings it all back to the structured origins of the brand. Unfortunately, you will have to snap up these clothes while you can, as Burberry closed down the line in January, making Thomas Burberry yet another victim of the economic downturn.
