Revealed at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show, the Peugeot RD is the full scale realization of a design by Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar. A recent graduate of the University of Colombia, his concept was the winner of Peugeot’s 5th Annual Design Competition. His design follows the contest theme, “Imagine the Peugeot of the Worldwide Megalopolis of Tomorrow,” which charged participants with conceiving a future urban transportation vehicle. The RD Concept Car breaks from tradition and uses only three wheels paired with an electric motor. The three wheeled configuration allows the vehicle to be particularly nimble in heavy metropolitan traffic and the open sided, glass covered cockpit affords unparalleled visibility. It took Peugeot six months to manufacture the vehicle. In addition to his concept being built, Carlos will also receive 10,000 Euros and an Xbox 360 for his efforts.
