The Mackintosh Torness is a bomber jacket with a lot of history behind it. Mackintosh, founded in 1823, has become as synonymous with Scotland as bagpipes. “Macs” were recognized for making the first waterproof coats by spreading rubber on cotton. While the technology has improved since then, the expert craftmanship has remained unchanged, even as the label has embraced a more upscale, design-friendly bent in recent years. When a label has been around as long as Mackintosh, and amassed as devoted a following, you can expect a certain level of quality. The Torness, available in both tan with white stripes and blue with white stripes, is made from a cotton-polyester blend and a viscose liner, making it lightweight enough for spring showers. The ribbed hem and cuffs give it a snug fit, so you can avoid the bulk of a more traditional raincoat.
