Barneys New York, Chicago: First Looks

Barneys New York, finally opened its new Chicago location in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Located directly in the shadow of their previous location on Rush street, the new 90,000 square foot mega luxury store does not disappoint. Complete with 6 sprawling floors of clothing, shoes, jewelry, a lounge, a green rooftop deck, and even a full restaurant. The space is a true work of art. The store was adequately stocked with the normal tourists and quite a few fellow Chicagoans, who were under dressed and over accessorized for the near 60 degree weather. With intricate title layouts on the woman’s section, end-on-end wood flooring in the men’s section, and a massive spiraling staircase with views of the Gold Coast, retail architects Jeffrey Hutchison & Associates have created a modern jewel.

The Men’s section is masterfully stocked full of all the designer brands you have come to expect from Barneys. RRL, Public School, Rogan, Rag & Bone, A.P.C., Opening Ceremony, and the list goes on. On the second Men’s floor is the bespoke Men’s suiting and dress apparel. This was quite possibly the most beautiful and wide array of dress apparel I’ve seen in Chicago or anywhere for that matter. With quality clothing, a helpful and knowledgeable staff, and the new amenities, this store has set the bar very high for new luxury retail locations.
