While the U.S. has been slow to embrace Volkswagen’s Tiguan, the crossover utility vehicle has experienced enormous popularity in Europe. Accordingly, VW has opted to give first dibs on the latest version of the Tiguan to its European market. Although there have been no changes under the hood, the more aggressive looking “R Line” model sees exterior and interior revisions. The exterior upgrade brings, “a new body-coloured front splitter sitting below the front bumper along with a unique matt chrome grille section. Blistered wheel arches surround new R Line 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels fitted with 255/40 tyres to lend the Tiguan a more purposeful stance. Next, a set of subtle body-colour sill extensions complete with matt chrome highlights are fitted leading into the new rear bumper complete with a small diffuser element. Finally, a small spoiler sits at the top of the rear window to complete the new look.” Interior modifications include a flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminum pedal pads and trim, sports seats stamped with the “R” insignia, and dual-zone climate control. No word on when this baby will be available in the States, but the Tiguan R Line will hit European dealers by June 2009.
