Art After Dark at the Guggenheim is a different take on New York City nightlife. Held on every first Friday of the month, guests and members can enjoy drinks, great music by DJ’s, and art from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. This past Friday, March 6 DJ Mike Simonetti provided the sounds while guests also had the chance to explore The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989. Our guest writer Jasper, was fortunate enough to attend, and has a personal report on his experience. More after the jump.

It’s Friday night so I glanced at my deepsea oyster perpetual date watch. Tick-tock reminded me that I need to bounce from work and take care of my social calendar!

It’s the first Friday of the month. Membership to one of the intellectual by day-hot mess by night NYC venues warrants an appearance from a boy like myself.

“Art after Dark”. The Guggenheim Museum is a great spot to rub elbows with some europeans, asians, of course-americans among many other socialites. An Italian DJ, Mike Simonetti was spinning a gamut of music genres throughout the night. The intellectuals and the fashionistas rocked the main floor! Although my drink of the night was a dirty martini, cosmos and other colorful drinks were everywhere!

Don’t get me wrong, one can easily contemplate on the current exhibits – Thannhauser Collection, Noguchi: The Bollingen Journey 1949-1956, The Hugo Boss Prize 2008: Emily Jacir, and The Third Mind: American

Artists Contemplate Asia 1860 – 1989 but why not bounce to the beat at the same time!

The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building was indeed packed! See you at the Gugg dance floor next month!

Door opens at 9. $25 cover charge. Free for members. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is located at 1071 Fifth Avenue (at 89th Street)
